Our newest Cailleach-In fulfilment of Helen Comerford’s wishes we have gone ahead and invited an artist to take up the place vacated in our little collective by Helen’s death. We have invited Mary Fitzgerald, whom many of our followers will know, to join us.
Mary has been painting and making prints and works-on-paper since she graduated from NCAD in the 1970s. She has exhibited widely in Ireland, Europe, the USA and especially Japan where she studied at the Tama University of Fine Art in Tokyo. In 1985 she represented Ireland at the XVIII Bienal de San Paolo and despite a serious car accident which interfered with her work for many years she was included in the Irish Women Artists exhibition 1987, Rosc (1988) and in L’Imaginaire Irlandais (1996) She was elected to Aosdana in 1990
Mary FitzGerald lives and works in Dublin and County Waterford. Her work can be seen in the collections of IMMA, the Arts Council, the OPW , the Crawford Art Gallery and the National Self-Portrait Collection at the University of Limeric and in many prestigious private and corporate collections.
Na Cailleacha is delighted to welcome Mary to the collective and we look forward to working with her towards our next projects.
